One thing for sure though, nobody is perfect however a parent try, and it may just be a myth to strive to become a super or the ultimate parent to a child. Being a good enough parent may be just what we need, but we want our children to be more than just average, and so there must be some things that we can do to give our children the very best to start in life and at the same time make our lives easier and fulfilling too.
Your number one guideline as a parent is to realize that you are but human who cannot perform everything, cannot be everywhere at the same time, cannot know everything under the sun, and that you will also commit mistakes. Parents have their own issues, problems and hang-ups, and the key to this imperfection is to have the right attitude. Among the right attitude to adopt is to be humble, to forgive yourself for your mistakes, to celebrate for the successes you made, to learn from the past, and to focus your sight in moving forward.
Another advice in parenting is to realize that you are only playing a certain percentage of the whole life of your child. The reality for a parent to accept is that you are not the only factor that would influence the upbringing of your children but also the outside factors that affect them when you are not around, such as friends, teaches, television, magazines, internet, social media, and others.
Parents have to recognize that their children are not the only things in their lives, and although they are considered in their decisions, it should be what is good for the family as a whole that has to be followed.
It is important for parents to look at the positive sides of their children, like recognizing that they too make mistakes. Forgiving them fast, correcting them gently and move on, and recognizing the things they did right than the wrong, are some parenting attitudes.
To get your children to behave, it is important that as a parent you stick to your guns so they say and believe in yourself. There will be instances when your kid will challenge your decision, so do not be swayed, do not be afraid to say no if that is what is right for your kid. True some of a parent’s decision may turn out to be a bad one but it is better to stick to your decision especially your children are watching you on how you deal with life, how you make decisions, how you cope up with adversity, and believing in yourself would be a good example for them.
